GREENVILLE HIGH RUGGERS SPLIT CONTESTS

February 17, 2012, Greenville, SC.  What a beautiful rugby night under the lights at the Greenville, SC Kroc center where the Greenville High School Red Raider Ruggers A and B teams faced the Easley Green Wave and the Chapin Eagles.  Greenville’s A-side and Easley’s Green Wave mauled each other up and down the field a few times before Greenville’s Parker Lowrance scored a powerful push-through try in the far right corner to start off the scoring.  After a missed conversion, Greenville powered right back and found the right combination scoring three more trys by Darion Jamison, Carson Phillips and Mike Ware.  Two added conversions made the score 24-0 Greenville at halftime.  The second half was more evenly matched as Easley’s defense allowed only two trys by Greenville’s Chase Pritchett and Carson Phillips.  Easley’s Green Wave washed over Greenville’s defense in the last 10 minutes of the game scoring two trys.  No conversions were successful in the second half making the final score Greenville Red Raiders 34, Easley Green Wave 10.    Next up was Greenville Red Raider B team against the Chapin Eagles B team.  The Red Raiders put up a heroic effort, but proved to be no match for the well-coached, disciplined Chapin Eagle team.  Chapin scored 5 trys and three successful conversions and shut out Greenville in the first half making the score Chapin 31-0 at the half.   The second half was much of the same as Chapin scored 4 more trys and a successful conversion.  The Red Raiders did manage one try on an exciting break out 30 yard run by #8 of the B-team midway through the second half.  The final score was Chapin Eagles 53, Greenville Red Raiders 5.  It was a rucking good night of rugby with good sportsmanship by all.  Greenville’s next challenge will be on the beautiful Kroc Center field under the lights next week against Greer B side and Irmo.  Come out and cheer on your favorite team!
