Coach Bios
Patrick Reid
Patrick played rugby for 4 years at The Citadel (2002-2006). While there, he served as Match Secretary (2003-2004) and Team President/Captain (2004-2006). He was selected to play on the Palmetto LAU Select Side twice (2004, 2005) as scrumhalf and served as a Captain of the team. During his tenure at The Citadel, Patrick lead the Bulldogs to a Division III Palmetto Conference Championship (2006), and two Rugby South Championship tournaments (2005, 2006), winning the South Championship in 2006. From there, he played with the Bulldogs in the Div. III East Coast/National Championship tournament, taking runner-up in a gut-wrenching loss to Bentley College.
Upon graduation, Patrick returned to his High School Alma Matter to teach Social Studies and coach Football, Wrestling, and Track. In 2008, he was a founding member of the Greenville High School Rugby Club as their Head Coach. He and Coach Reed Brogan lead a fierce group of ruggers to a State Championship in their first year of existence, thus qualifying for the South Championship tournament. In 2009, Patrick and Reed lead the mighty Red Raiders to another State Championship match, earning State runner-ups and qualifying for another South Tournament. Coach Reid will work with the Backs.
Reed Brogan
Reed began his playing career in 2002 as a senior at Science Hill High School in Johnson City, TN. He and a group of friends started a team there and went on to compile a 15-0 record which included winning the TN State 7's championship.
Brogan continued his playing career at Clemson University. Brogan was a 4 year starter at Lock forward for the Tigers. He was an influential member in the team's rise back to power in the South. In 2005 the Tigers finished second in the South earning them a spot in the USA Rugby National tournament. That year the Tigers traveled to Colorado Springs, CO to take on Army and Penn State. In 2006 the Tigers were able to win their first South title in almost 10 years. That sent them to Cal Berkely to take on Navy and UC-Santa Barbara.
In 2002 Brogan was selected for the Georgia Rugby Union U-19 side. He traveled to Miami with the team to play their counterparts from Florida as a curtain raiser match for the USA v. Spain test match; the match took place in the Miami Fusion MLS stadium. In 2003 and 2005 Brogan was selected to the GRU collegiate all-stars. With the Tigers Brogan served a semester as Vice-President before serving 3 semesters as club President.
Upon graduation, Reed moved to nearby Greenville, SC to begin a career in sales. From the moment after graduation he knew he wanted to give back to the sport. In 2008, he joined forces with Patrick Reid to start a rugby club at Greenville High. He and Coach Reid lead a fierce group of ruggers to a State Championship in their first year of existence, thus qualifying for the South Championship tournament. In 2009, Patrick and Reed lead the mighty Red Raiders to another State Championship match, earning State runner-ups and qualifying for another South Tournament. Coach Brogan will work with the forwards. Coach Brogan has dusted off his kit and joined the Greenville Griffins mens team in late 2009 to play as a 2nd row and 8-man.
